From a young age I have had an interest in birds. With my photographic endeavors expanding in recent history, I took opportunities to image them whenever I could, it
is both enjoyable and challenging. In 2006 I started
to gear up to accommodate this task and was developing a significant database of images with no proper display venue so decided to add this index to my website. It
has grown considerably since that
timeframe. These images were taken in my local area and from wherever I happen to find myself while traveling with my cameras. The short list would include
Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Maine,
Maryland, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Virginia and into Canada. For details and some comments about my imaging system please refer to
my article,
My Canon Photographic System, found on my Writings & Articles page. I also have various bird & nature
related articles posted. If you have an interest
in my birding photojournals the direct link can be
found at Birding and Bird Photography.
This index page was revised in November 2008. I had the list tabled in alphabetical order and it was becoming too unwieldy
and difficult to revise in that format. The revision was indexed referencing The Sibley Guide to the Birds, Copyright 2000 by Chanticleer Press (ISBN
0-679-45122-6).
Recent additions to the Index, March 2012:
I have been in Santa Monica, California since late February, so far with little time to get out seeking birds with my cameras. Just two Saturday mornings - the second in a driving rain. Even so I was able to add nine new species to
The Index so far. The spring migration will be underway here soon and I hope to take full advantage of it. Below is the list to date:
Pacific Loon; Surfbird; three new gulls including
Mew Gull,
Western Gull, and two not so great shots on a Heermann's Gull;
one new hummie in the rain a, Allen's Hummingbird; a new flycatcher, Black Phoebe; and always a treat for me, two new warblers
also in the rain, Orange-crowned Warbler and Townsend's Warbler.
I wish to thank an expert birder and photographer in Southern California, Christopher Taylor, who was particularly helpful in identifying the local gulls when we were in the field together.
Check out his photography when you have a minute - I was impressed and you will be as well.
More California birds added into May 2012 include:
Red-throated Loon;
Clark's Grebe;
Pelagic Cormorant;
Brandt's Cormorant;
Graylag Goose;
Long-billed Curlew
Black-hooded Parakeet;
Anna's Hummingbird;
Costa's Hummingbird;
Acorn Woodpecker;

American Pipit;

Western Tanager;
Black-headed Grosbeak;
Lazuli Bunting;

A note about the photography...All images are by Kirk M. Rogers.
Most images have been printed at an appropriate size and added to my collection of works for exhibit. These are displayed when at shows and events either packaged
on foam core, professionally framed or ArtiPlaq
mounted as a final for purchase.
The web versions are excellent representations, but a full
resolution print significantly enhances the beauty of these photographs.
Please contact me should you have an interest in obtaining any of the images.
