Scorpius in the Sky
Scorpius is a magnificent southern constellation and one of the few that allows at least a vague impression of the mythological creature it is supposed to represent. It lies at the intersection of the ecliptic & the Milky Way near the galactic center. This position, in line with the center of our galaxy means that Scorpius is rich in star clusters & other galactic objects
Antares (Alpha Scorpii – Arabic, ‘rival of mars’) marks the scorpion’s heart at magnitude 1.06, is one of the brightest stars in the night sky and dominates this area.
