Cepheus as a Constellation
A rather
undistinguished constellation
but one of great import
containing the prototype variable
star, Delta Cepheid, discovered to
be variable by John Goodricke
in 1784.
Also
contains Herschel’s ‘Garnet Star’,
one of the largest stars known,
a class M21a supergiant. If
it were placed at the center of our
solar system, it would extend out
near the orbit of Saturn.
