Sanford - May 18, 2010

Thanks to a recent posting on the Maine Birds list, I was aware the Eared Grebe had returned to Sanford this year and had been spotted. The Sanford Sewerage Treatment Facility is well known to birders and a varied assortment of shorebirds, ducks, swallows & perching birds can be observed there at times. I found the facility staff to be exceptional in every regard and they were most welcoming to birding efforts. The following gallery is a sampling of the images from the day. I should also point out that I've observed turtles, gators, snakes and the like in many places in swamps and marshes in my travels, however, I have never viewed snapping turtles the size of those in Sanford.
